Sloppy Joes

- 1 ½ pounds lean ground beef
- 1 cup onion, chopped
- 1 cup bell peppers, chopped
- salt & black pepper, to taste
- 1 cup spicy ketchup
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar, be sure to pack it into the measuring spoon
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 8 hamburger buns
Instructions
- Season the ground beef lightly with salt and pepper and brown in a large skillet - be sure to break it up as it cooks.
- Stir in the onions and peppers. Check the seasoning and make sure it has enough salt.
- Continue cooking the mixture until the onions and peppers are soft. Stir often so it doesn't stick.
- Stir remaining ingredients into the skillet.
- Bring to a simmer, the reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes or so, stirring often. If the mixture seems too dry during simmering add up to ¾ cup of water or V-8 juice.
- When the sloppy joe mix has thickened, remove the skillet from heat

I'll be 80 this & my mother made this in the 1950's filling on toasted buns, topped with cheddar & put under the broiler for just a bit to melt & maybe brown slightly for any of us that asked. Soooooooo good!!!
