🥫 How to store leftovers
Leftover steak is otherwise known as the best steak and egg breakfast ever! Tomorrow you will thank today you.
Refrigerate leftover garlic butter steak tips in an airtight container for up to three days. Warm them gently in the microwave to reheat—but don't overheat the beef, or it'll dry out.
You can also freeze cooked steak tips in an airtight container or freezer bag for up to three months. Keep in mind that the longer they’re frozen, the more the meat will dry out.
💭 Things to know
Expert Tip: Pat the beef tips dry with paper towels before seasoning and searing the meat. Doing so will help the meat brown, improve the texture, and prevent the oil from splattering.
- Let the beef tips sit at room temperature for 20-30 minutes before cooking so the meat cooks evenly—all the steak pros do it this way!
- You need to cook your steak tips in batches so there’s plenty of room in the skillet to brown all sides of the meat. Each batch takes about 4-5 minutes to cook.
- Your delicious steak tips are done cooking when they reach an internal temperature of 150 F.
- Cooking times will vary depending on the size of your steak tips, how you like your steak cooked, and how hot your skillet is.
- Remove the steak tips from the skillet before you make the garlic butter sauce so you don’t overcook the meat.
- It only takes about 30 seconds to cook the garlic, so remove your skillet from the heat as soon as the garlic becomes fragrant. Burnt garlic will taste bitter and ruin the flavor of the garlic butter sauce.
- It’s important to use fresh garlic in the garlic butter sauce. Garlic powder just won’t cut it!
- Garnish your tender beef tips with fresh herbs. Fresh parsley is a great option!
👩🍳 FAQs
Steak tips are cubed steak pieces that are cut from a larger piece of meat. They cook quickly, brown well, and make juicy, tender steak bites.
The best steak tips are made with a tender cut of beef. Use top sirloin steak, beef tenderloin (filet mignon), tri-tip steak, New York strip steak, or rib-eye steak.
Those cuts are lean and have just enough fat. I don’t recommend using rump roast or beef stew meat since those cuts are tougher, fattier, and need a slow cooking process to get the right texture.
Cut your steak into 1-1 ½ inch cubes for the best results. Use a sharp knife and a sturdy cutting board.
Absolutely! I recommend using a cast iron Dutch oven without a ceramic coating on the inside.
Your skillet likely wasn’t hot enough. You need high temperatures to properly brown meat. Next time, let your cast iron skillet warm up to medium-high heat before adding the steak to guarantee a caramelized, crispy crust.
