💭 Things to know
Expert Tip: Don't store Dr Pepper baked beans in aluminum or cover with aluminum foil. The natural acids in the sauce react with the aluminum and can give an off flavor to the beans.
- I like to fix these baked beans in an iron skillet. I can cook the bacon and onions then bake everything right in the same skillet.
- Drain liquid from the beans or they will be too "juicy".
- I like to use brown sugar pork and beans but you can use plain great northern beans or navy beans if you wish. I don't think the end result is as flavorful, though.
- If you have time make these baked beans the day before you want to serve them - they're even better the next day.
- If you are making a lot then use a dutch oven.
👩🍳 FAQs
My recipe for Dr Pepper baked beans tastes spicy and sweet with a mild Dr Pepper flavor.
You can but the flavor will be off. Sugar substitutes don't handle baking or heat well.
Yes they can but there will be a lot of liquid. You'll want to either drain it off or simmer uncovered until it is reduced.
