Creamy angel chicken noodle soup is a really easy recipe made in the crock pot, but that doesn't mean it skimps on flavor! If you like the buttery, creamy taste of angel chicken and angel chicken mac and cheese, you'll absolutely adore this gourmet new soup recipe—it's heavenly!

This is an overview of the ingredients. You'll find the full measurements and instructions in the green recipe card (printable) at the bottom of the page.

This is an overview of the instructions. Full instructions are in the green recipe card at the bottom of the page.
- Place chicken in the crockpot. Top with butter and add seasonings.
- Add the carrots, celery, and onions.
- Pour in the chicken stock and the cans of cream of chicken soup. Cook.
- Shred the chicken, then add it back to the
slow cooker . Stir in the dry noodles and cook until tender, about 15 minutes more.
🥫 Storage
I love having homemade chicken noodle soup in the fridge or freezer for when I'm craving a comforting, delicious meal without any work.
Spoon leftovers into a storage container with a tight-fitting lid, or a freezer-safe bag. If you plan to eat your angel chicken noodle soup the next day, refrigerate it. Otherwise, throw it in the freezer—it'll last there for up to three months.
However, like most crockpot soups, the noodles will continue to soak up the liquid as it sits, so they'll get a little softer after storing. To rewarm your soup, simmer it over low heat on the stove, or pop it in the microwave for a few 30-second intervals.
Sometimes I'll use leftovers from this crockpot ranch chicken recipe as a start for this angel chicken noodle soup!
📖 Variations
Make this
- For extra tender chicken, use chicken thighs instead of skinless chicken breasts.
- You could also use up leftover protein, like rotisserie chicken. In that case, reduce the cooking time and just warm everything up until the veggies are tender.
- Sometimes I'll add other veggies, depending on what's in my fridge. I really like the flavor with some fresh mushrooms and peas, too.
- Dealing with picky eaters? I get it—you can swap the onion for onion powder and garlic powder if your little ones can spot even the most finely diced aromatics from a mile away!
- Have a parmesan rind sitting in your fridge? You can chop off a piece and throw it in the soup! Remove it before serving—this trick adds a lovely, nutty parmesan flavor to the dish.
- If you have fresh herbs, you can use them in place of the Italian dressing mix. When doing so, though, you might want to add salt and pepper, since the dressing mix usually has those included.
- You can swap the pasta for dry egg noodles if they're all you have. It'll make it less like angel chicken and more like a traditional creamy chicken noodle soup recipe.
This is one of those soup that's absolutely out of this world delicious served in a homemade soup bread bowl.
💭 Things to know
Expert Tip: Thin spaghetti or angel hair works best in this recipe. (After all, it's called "angel" chicken for a reason!) You could experiment with other types, but they'll take longer to cook.
- If you happen to have leftover cooked vegetables (like these maple roasted carrots) then put them right in the soup!
- To decrease prep time for the
slow cooker chicken noodle soup, use a frozen mirepoix mix, instead of fresh. - Dealing with special diets? That's okay—you can cook the noodles separately and simply pour the soup over the noodles for whoever wants to eat them. However, if it's gluten you're avoiding, do keep in mind that most cream of chicken soups are not gluten-free.
- On that note, you could replace the cream of chicken soup with a homemade variety. That would be delicious. Though, just a head up: the creamy base for homemade sauces generally doesn't freeze well, even when it's diluted in a soup like this one.
