Y'all, the sauce on this chicken is amazing. The boneless chicken breasts come out super tender and buttery and the creamy sauce makes you want to just lick the plate until it's as shiny as the top of Uncle Ted's head. It's honestly one of my favorite crockpot chicken breast recipes!

📖 Variations
- Boneless chicken thighs can be substituted for chicken breast.
- So can boneless pork.
- Add some vegetables to this chicken, by adding a bag of frozen mixed vegetables at the last hour of cooking.
- If you are a mushroom fan, switch out the cream of chicken soup for cream of mushroom soup or a can of Campbell's golden mushroom soup. Or just try this slow cooker chicken stroganoff.
- You can add sliced fresh mushrooms if you like them.
- Change up the flavor of this delectable sauce completely by using a ranch packet or a zesty Italian dressing packet.
- Parmesan cheese makes a great addition to this delicious dish, I recommend using freshly grated parmesan, you can add it to the
slow cooker with the cream soup mixture. - Out of chicken stock? Chicken broth, vegetable broth, or white wine can be used instead, I like to add extra garlic if I am using chicken broth instead of chicken stock.

🥫 How to store leftover angel chicken
Store leftover angel chicken in an airtight container (or covered with plastic wrap) in the fridge for up to three days.
Reheat it in the microwave for 2 minutes, stir, and then heat in 30 second intervals until hot. You can also warm it gently on top of the stove, stirring often.
Don't freeze the leftovers. The sauce can become grainy.
Expert Tip:
Y'all be sure to spray the crockpot well with no-stick cooking spray or use a
💭 Things to know
- Be sure to use the packet of dry Italian seasoning. Add it to the crock pot DRY.
- Keep the cover on the crockpot! Every time you take it off you let the heat out and it needs to build up again.
- If you are out of garlic cloves, you can use one teaspoon of garlic powder in place of the cloves.
- Add a dash of white wine to this dish to make a rich sauce.
- Be sure that you do not melt the butter and cream cheese. You only want to soften them so that you can mix them together.
- If you are using chicken tenderloins instead of boneless skinless chicken breasts, you can reduce the cooking time down to four hours on the low setting instead of six.
- For extra flavor, you can season the chicken breasts with salt and black pepper before adding them to the
slow cooker . - I always like to cook my chicken breasts on low heat so that they don't become tough.
🍝 Angel hair vs spaghetti
The difference between the two noodles is that angel hair is much finer than spaghetti noodles. Angel hair pasta is best for light and creamy sauces instead of a hearty tomato-based sauce.
🫗 Is you sauce too thin?
I've been really confused by comments that the sauce is too thin. I'm not sure why that would be but here are my suggestions:
- Shred the chicken in the sauce about 30 minutes before you plan to serve it. It's meant to go over rice, pasta, bread, or potatoes so the shredded chicken will help thicken in up.
- Make sure you're using dry Italian dressing mix and not liquid Italian dressing.
- Use regular Philadelphia brand cream cheese. Do not use low fat or fat free. Do not use an off brand. You can use up to 8 ounces if you wish.
- Add just ¼ cup of chicken stock and see if you like the consistency better.
- If it's too thin you can save it by removing as much of the sauce as possible, mixing in 2 tablespoons of cornstarch, and heating it in a pan over the stove until it gets as thick as you like.
👩🍳 FAQs
Cooking chicken in a crockpot is generally done on the low setting. This will ensure that the meat is not overcooked or tough.
Yes, you can overcook chicken in a crockpot. If left on too long, the chicken may become dry and tough.
Yes, you can but I recommend that you thaw it first, so that your sauce doesn't become runny.

Not as great as I expected going off the reviews. Definitely runny so I’d add cornstarch. Also very bland but I added poultry seasoning and pepper and that helped. On a positive note…couldn’t be easier!
Terrie Salisbury says
Definitely an Italian salad with different kinds of lettuce, lots of veggies and Italian dressing with thick garlic bread.
SAlly Waltman] says
Could you use leftover turkey instead sounds delicious but I have some leftover turkey that would be a good way to use it up
Marye says
So if you do it that way make it on top of the stove in about 30 minutes. The long cooking time in the slow cooker will ruin turkey that's already cooked.
Shari says
Can I use chicken gravy in place of the cream of chicken, or would that make it too heavy?
Marye says
I haven't tried it that way - it would definitely change the flavor.
Denny says
I made this recipe tonight and it was a hit. I served over pasta, but will try it with mash potatoes next time. Instead of spraying the slow cooker, I used a slow cooker liner for easy clean up.
Polly Laughlin says
I did recipe on stove top. Seasoned chicken with a little salt an pepper Then cooked in skillet Then added the rest of ingredients. I also added cooked broccoli and green onions at the end. It came out great! Thanks for this recipe!
Gail Sharp says
Would it be possible to use my bottle of Italian salad dressing in place of the pkg of dressing & chicken broth?
Marye says
No, I'm sorry that won't work.
Polly Laughlin says
Can it be cooked on stove and not in slow cooker
Marye says
I'm sure it can. I've never done it that way.
Sarah says
I made this for my 4 boys tonight for dinner. One took a bite and didn’t want anything to do with it. The other 3 ate it but not all of it that was served to them. They said it was very bland and lacked any flavor. My kids are aged 14-6. I think I’ll try adding a bag of mixed vegetables to it and try it again A’s tomorrow night’s leftovers. 🤷🏻♀️
Tabitha Dippery says
You should add your own seasonings. I added, pepper, Adobe, paprika and salt.
Melodee Perkins says
I love it!
Marla says
Has anyone tried it in a pressure cooker ???
Megan says
Woo.. made this to the recipe and it is WAY too salty. Must be the brand of Italian dressing seasoning I used? How would you recommend diluting the salt? More cream cheese?
R Alexander says
Just made this today and it’s delicious! I decided to add a bag of frozen veggies and served over pasta. Will definitely make again.
Wendy says
I just made this on the stove top (with pre-cooked chicken) and my family loves it! Had to add extra broth because the sauce was so thick, unlike those who used a crockpot. Super tasty meal! Yeah, I can see this going on the regular rotation!
Jamie says
So easy to make and it was delicious!! I will definitely make this again!!
Charlotte Vest says
If I use thighs how long do I cook on low? Same for chicken tenderloins
how long on low.
Marye says
6-8 hours for whatever you use.
Emily says
If you don’t have an Italian dressing packet can you use Italian dressing?
Marye says
No. You could use dry Italian seasoning but dressing is totally different.
H says
I was wondering how long you could cook it on high for instead of low?
Marye says
4-5 hours but cooking chicken on high can make it tough. I'd use thighs if doing it that way.
Julie says
Can’t wait to try this!
Kierra Varney says
Could I prepare the mixture and refrigerate the night before and this still turn out the same? If you have tried this?
Marye says
I haven't done it but I think it will be fine.
Tammy says
I just made this and we are having It for dinner tonight. So good!!! I sent the recipe to a friend and he said the sauce was a little thin when he made it so I added a low sodium bullion cube to mine instead of the broth. It turned out PERFECT! I also added broccoli. It is so good. Thank you for sharing!
